FLOOD PARK CONSTRUCTION IN KAMÝK NAD VLTAVOU ENTERS FINAL STAGE
In autumn 2024, the construction of the Kamýk nad Vltavou Flood Park began, based on our design. It is a comprehensive revitalisation of a disused former military site and its adjacent area. The revitalisation consists of restoring a branch of the Vltava River and the adjacent floodplain, complemented with features supporting leisure activities.
Thus, in the centre of the municipality, within a previously closed-off brownfield site, a new revitalised public space will emerge, centred around a blind river branch. The branch includes a weir that regulates the dynamics of water level fluctuations in relation to the Slapy Reservoir. The area is equipped with permeable-surface pathways and modern urban furniture. It also includes a beach volleyball court and a small car park.
The project was designed from the very beginning as a single variant in the conceptual study. Afterwards, we obtained all the necessary permits and prepared documentation to secure funding from the subsidy programme. The flood park is designed to make the most of the area’s potential for implementing climate change adaptation measures in the context of the urban environment and the Vltava River ecosystem.
The project also has a synergistic effect with the planned construction by the Directorate of Waterways of the Czech Republic: the Kamýk nad Vltavou Recreational Marina. The river branch is 185 m long, with a maximum flooded area of 4,573 m2. The project was supported with funds from IROP (Integrated Regional Operational Programme), specific objective 2.2. The applicant was the municipality of Kamýk nad Vltavou.
The project will create conditions for the full and functional use of public spaces, restoring the river landscape and improving ecosystem functions. The existence of the park will expand tourism and recreation opportunities in the municipality, reinforced by the synergy with the planned marina.
At present, the main construction works of the river branch have already been completed. The pathway network, beach volleyball court, and car park are being finalised. Afterwards, urban furniture such as benches will be installed. The completion of the project is scheduled for the end of October this year. Administrative and subsidy-related processes will follow, and the park is expected to open to the public at the beginning of 2026.
